Who should apply for a UK Student Visa?

If you are 16 or over and wish to pursue a course at higher education course  in the UK lasting more than six months,  you will most likely need to apply for a Student Visa. Applicants must generally meet English language requirements and hold an unconditional offer from their chosen institution.

Permitted Activities for this type of visa

A Student Visa holder can: 
 

  •  Study

  • May be able to work - how much depends on what you are studying and whether you are working in or out of term-time

  • Your visa will allow you to live and study in the UK for the duration of your course

Restrictions for this type of visa

A Student Visa holder cannot:

 

  • Claim public funds (state benefits)

  • Work in certain jobs (e.g. sports coach)

  • Be self-employed

  • Study at an academy or a local authority-funded school
